While this quote has certainly been around for awhile, my earliest recollection of reading it was during winter of 2016, at a time when I was living away from home and doing some heavy duty soul-searching. ⁣⁣⁠ ⁣⁣⁠ These words found me at a time in my life when I was very good at coming up with reasons not to do things. But it was never a flat out “no.” Rather, it was always some variation of “later,” or “when I’m ready,” or “after this happens first.”⁣⁣⁠ ⁣⁣⁠ They also came to me at a time when I was beginning to realize that change was imminent, and it wasn’t going to wait until I was “ready.” I could either try to postpone it some more, or embrace it and guide it into something amazing. ⁣⁣⁠ ⁣⁣⁠ I chose the latter, and you know what? It was completely worth it.⁣⁣⁠ ⁣⁣⁠ These words were one of many nudges I’m grateful to have received in the direction of living my evolution as it was happening rather than waiting for it to be “complete.” ⁣Because we’re never truly finished, are we?⁣⁣⁠ ⁣⁣⁠ I hope these words now find you at a time in your life when you too can use a gentle nudge towards embracing change, no matter how scary it might seem, and exploring the kind of potential that only exists just outside of your comfort zone.⁣⁣⁠ ⁣⁣⁠ What was one of the most rewarding leaps of faith you’ve taken? #GeneralisedAnxietyDisorder (GAD) is defined as chronic worrying about more than one thing at a time. I have suffered with a sense of worry & self-doubt my entire life but only got diagnosed a few years ago. As someone who suffers from #Anxiety, it is a daily battle to try and control my emotions, my fears, and my thoughts on normal everyday things as well as the infinite unknown. For me, it is a continuous inner monologue about everything that could happen. What if this happens, what if I fail, what if people don’t like me? A constant thought process of trying to take on everything in the world while not burdening anyone with my struggles. I may have days where one thought takes a forefront, but generally it is a juggling act of trying to achieve everything while living my life. One way for me to cope is by attempting to control all situations around me. If I am driving the car I know where it is going. There can be no surprises. I decide the route. I am in control. Some appreciate my mothering as some have put it. I am the one to always book the holiday, plan the party, research the cheapest deal. And there are those who get frustrated over my inability to let things go. My need to do everything right. To be perfect. I have gotten very good at hiding my emotions, not through fear, but because I could be considered weak. The thought of talking out loud, forces one to stay quiet and say I’m fine. Yes, I am fine. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who is fine when they say they are. It’s a way to be polite without actually answering the question…How are you? So, how are you? Are you okay? Are you coping? The questions that everyone asks you, but don’t always want to know the truth. Well I do. So how are you? We live in a world where #mentalhealth is now okay to talk about. Those who do are praised for speaking out. But remember, this is not like a cold. It cannot be cured with Tea, but it can be managed. It’s a never-ending journey of good and bad days, reminding ourselves that we’re okay. For anyone out there feeling the same, you are doing a good job.
