Contrary to what Netflix has told you… ⠀ Losing weight doesn't mean you have to stop eating fat, carbs, sugar, dairy, or gluten. Losing weight comes down to eating fewer calories than your body burns. ⠀ That's it. ⠀ If someone is *actually* eating in a calorie deficit, they're going to lose weight. If they aren't losing weight, they aren't in a calorie deficit. ⠀ No exception. ⠀ Calories always count. ⠀ Period. ⠀ But... ⠀ The fact that calories always count doesn't mean you always have to be counting calories. ⠀ It's entirely possible to lose weight without counting, tracking, or measuring a single morsel of food that drops down into your tummy. ⠀ Full disclosure: I'm a fan of tracking 📝 ⠀ I believe it's one of the best ways to ensure someone's consistently eating in a calorie deficit. It teaches you a buttload about the food you come in contact with daily, too. Squats...everyone’s favorite exercise 😁. The squat is a complex exercise and there are many common mistakes that are typically made. However, these are the two most common. - The most popular one is limited range of motion/half squats. Often times, it may actually feel as if you are squatting all the way down until you see a video and realize you aren’t. If you do half reps, expect half the results. - Another common mistake is collapsing forward and using too much back to lift the weight. This is usually in response to realizing you aren’t going deep enough but rather than actually squatting deeper, you compensate by leaning forward and using your back. Your back should not be hurting during squats and your spine should stay neutral. - You should squat to at least parallel and possibly even slightly below. Proper, safe depth will depend on the person. I always recommend recording some of your sets to make sure your form is on point before you either get hurt, form bad habits. . A method of increasing your strength and power is to incorporate PAUSE REPS. This is where at the point before the contraction phase within the lift, you pause the movement for around 4 seconds, relaxing the muscle fibres, then explosively contract the muscles and lift the weight. What you're doing is lifting the weight from a weaker position with relaxed muscle fibres and not using the stretch reflex motion to help move the weight. You will recruit more muscle fibres in a shorter amount of time, making you more explosive and powerful. This can be done on any conventional lift to help increase your strength and power 💪🏼
